How to:
Choose Your Clutch

Clutch Selection Guide

Our Part Number System

Xtreme Performance Clutch kits are available in a wide range of configurations. After determining the right stage of clutch for you, make sure to select the part with the components you require (series code) and review the specifications of the clutch in our catalogue.

Our stages are mostly defined by the friction disc type combined with the level of clamping force from the pressure plate. Choosing the correct clutch kit for your application is critical to ensure the best durability, performance and driveability. Many people believe that jumping straight to a motorsport upgrade will provide the best kit for their application, but these are designed for very special uses and may not be the best kit for your application.

In order to choose your clutch kit, ask yourself these 4 main questions and then match this to the recommendations below. Also make sure to check our online vehicle catalogue and see what stages are available for your vehicle as well as specific clamping force percentage increases for your car. If you need any help, please feel free to ask our friendly sales team for advice by contacting us.

Question 1: How many performance modifications have been made to the vehicle?

Performance modifications vary greatly between vehicles. It is important to consider what types of modifications have been made and how significant the increases in engine torque will be. Torque is the major factor for clutch capability and it is important to consider what modifications have been made and whether you need to factor in future modifications

Question 2: What is the vehicle mainly being used for (ie. daily driving, motorsport)?

One of the most critical questions to consider is what the vehicle is being used for primarily. Is it still being used everyday on the street or is it a race car? This is important to ensure you get the level of driveability required for what you actually use the vehicle for. Remember, getting a 7.25" triple plate race clutch may sound pretty cool, but if it is being used in a standard road car you will experience very harsh engagement and reduced service life.

The most popular upgrades in the Xtreme Clutch range are Stage 1 and Stage 1X clutch kits, this is because they are the most driveable upgrades for everyday use. Very high performance street cars may require a twin or triple disc organic upgrade, but the majority of street cars are well suited to Stage 1 upgrades.

Race cars that require a very high heat and torque capacity will normally use a multi-plate ceramic upgrade for optimal performance and durability in the high stresses of competition. These multi-plate upgrades are also often rebuildable using an Xtreme Clutch service kit.

We always recommend contacting our team to discuss you options if you are uncertain.

Question 3: What modifications, if any, are you planning to make to the vehicle in the near future and would your application change?

We know what its like... the daily very quickly becomes race car potential and it is important to consider what modifications you are planning to do in the near future. Changing a Clutch is a labour intensive exercise and we recommend considering
if you are planning to make big changes to the vehicle in the near future.

Question 4: What components would you require for the clutch system?

This can be difficult to determine before the transmission has been removed from the vehicle, but it is important to consider what other components should be changed at the same time as the clutch. Xtreme Clutch offer a variety of different kit solutions including base level kits all the way through to kits including a replacement flywheel and slave cylinder. Check out our kit options for your vehicle in the online catalogue and if you require additional components, Xtreme Clutch also offer replacement accessories individually such as clutch forks, pivot balls, fork boots, transmission guide tubes, bearings, flywheel and pressure plate bolts, dowels, master cylinders, dampers, boosters and more.
